Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules presented to Parliament on 15 March 2012

Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules accompanied by Explanatory Memorandum (HC1888) brings a new wave of radical changes in the immigration law.  Some of these will come into effect as soon as 6 April 2012.

The changes encompass introduction of new immigration categories of visitors carrying out permitted paid engagements, and Tier 1 (Graduate Entrepreneur) category.  Tier 1 (Post Study Work) will close on 6 April 2012.

Right to settlement in the UK will be limited for Tier 2 migrants.

Premium Sponsorship will be introduced for employers of migrant workers and changes will be made in the application process for Tier 2 and Tier 5 migrants.

Importantly, mandatory curtailment of leave to enter or remain will apply under Tiers 2, 4 and 5 where the migrant has failed to commence working or studying with his Sponsor, or has ceased to be employed or study.
